Congratulations to Mr Leon McSherry 4th Degree from Grandmaster Howard's Dojang and Mr Martin Mahoney 3rd Degree from Galway Taekwon-Do School on their selection for the 19th ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships to be held in Bulgaria next month.
Saturday saw the last of our June gradings with a teenager and adult Taekwon-Do class testing for their kups. The grading took place in St Joseph’s School for the Deaf, Navan Road, Dublin 7.
Our new beginners were promoted to yellow tag (9th kup) and it was nice to see the group being promoted after all their hard work. ITF examiner Master Howard said that as they go up the grades that more is expected of them. He also pointed out that it is important that their physical ability and flexibility increase as they promote. ‘As you rise up the grades your technical skills increase, but if your physical skills and flexibility don’t also increase then a gap will form and it will be difficult to pass the exams’ he said. He also encouraged all the younger students to work on their flexibility over the summer as they are off school and have more time to train.
Master Howard presented Jason Kennedy with the grading award for him improvement since his last grading.
